Gortyn Code are thrilled to announce that our first game Chantey will get a physical release in cartridge format through ModRetro®, an emerging leader in heirloom-quality electronics, and manufacturer of the Chromatic, a cartridge-based gaming handheld paying tribute to the Nintendo® Game Boy®. The game is slated for release on the Chromatic in the first quarter of 2025, and can now be pre-ordered on the ModRetro website for $39.99 USD. The game cartridge will be fully backwards compatible with the entire Game Boy® line of video game consoles.

Chantey is an upcoming pirate metal-inspired top-down adventure, mixing open-world exploration and rhythm game elements. Set in an alternate history where Golden Age pirate mythology and headbanging metal riffs collide, you play as a young-man-turned-pirate, entangled in a fierce pirate vendetta between the descendants of the legendary ‘Nightingale Pirate’ on a quest to rule the seven seas beneath the vibrant echoes of rousing pirate metal anthems. Embark on an epic journey to re-assemble and revive the Nightingale Pirate’s heavy metal legacy, navigate treacherous waters, overcome notorious enemies, and survive the horrors lurking beneath the ocean’s waves!

The game’s first public playable demo, revealed at the Indie Arena Booth at gamescom 2024 together with the game’s announcement trailer, has been launched on Itch.io.
